2011 Chevrolet Avalanche
The 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche is largely unchanged. This reconfigurable pickup truck is essentially a crew-cab version of the Chevrolet Suburban SUV with a folding "midgate" separating the cab from the cargo bed.
Lowering the midgate extends the bed to 8.2 feet from 5.3 feet. Avalanche seats up to 6 and comes in LS, LT, and LTZ trims. Each is available with rear-wheel drive or full-time four-wheel drive that can be left engaged on dry pavement and includes a low-range gear for off-roading. The two-speed transfer case for for the 4WD system is standard on the LTZ and available on the LS and LT when equipped with the optional Trailering Package. LT models can also get the transfer case when ordered with the optional Z71 Off-Road Suspension Package. The sole engine is a 320-horsepower 5.3-liter V8. It comes with GM’s Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine is capable of running on E85 ethanol-blended fuel. Maximum towing capacity is 8,100 pounds. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front-side airbags, and curtain-side airbags. GM’s Autoride load-leveling suspension is standard on LTZ and not available otherwise. Options include a navigation system and DVD entertainment. Also available are a wireless cell-phone link and rearview camera. Heated and cooled front seats are LTZ-exclusive standard features.
