The 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback roster expands to include a new lower-cost trim. This series of compact sedans and hatchbacks sees no significant changes otherwise for 2011. Front-wheel-drive Lancer DE and ES models are powered by a 152-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. Both come as sedans, and an ES Sportback hatchback is new for 2011. The front-drive GTS sedan and GTS Sportback have a 168-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder. DE, ES, and GTS are available with a 5-speed manual transmission.

A continuously variable transmission (CVT) that behaves much like an automatic is offered on the ES and GTS. The Lancer Ralliart reprises its sedan and Sportback variants. These versions have all-wheel drive and a 237-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch automated-manual transmission that behaves much like an automatic. The high-performance AWD Lancer Evolution continues in GSR, MR, and MR Touring trim levels. All use a 291-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder. GSRs have a 5-speed manual transmission; MR and MR Touring have the same 6-speed automated manual as the Ralliart. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front-side airbags, and curtain-side airbags. Leather upholstery and a sunroof are standard on the MR Touring and available on the GTS and Ralliart. A navigation system and hard drive for storing digital-music files is optional on all but the DE. Also offered is Mitsubishi’s Fuse voice-activated control for cell phones and digital-music players.
