AJ “Bazooka” Banal KOs Tanzanian foe in Rd 2 and Czar Amonsot also wins
Quite similar to Manny Pacquiao’s victory over Ricky Hatton, AJ “Bazooka” Banal walloped Tanzanian foe Mbwana Matumla with a huge left hook to win by second round knockout in their “Tuloy ang Pagsubok” fight at the Cebu Coliseum Saturday night.
Matumla could not match Banal’s aggressiveness as he fell flat on his back after absorbing a gigantic left hook followed with a right uppercut from the Filipino.
The referee finished counting out Matumla 2:59 minutes into the second round.
“Hindi ko naman hinahanap ang knock out, pero bigla na lang dumating,” said Banal.
The win gave Banal a strong chance to fight in the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Juan Manuel Marquez fight in July.
“Asahan ninyong paghahandaan ko iyon,” he said.
Banal’s win was comparable to Pacquiao’s win on May 2 when he demolished Hatton in just two rounds.
Banal now has a 19-1 record while Matumla fell to 18-4.
Amonsot decisions Chule
In the co-feature, Czar Amonsot won a 10-round decision over Morris Chule of Kenya in an ugly fight marred by a lot of clinching from both fighters.
Ring judges scored the fight 96-94, 97-93, 97-93 all in favor of Amonsot.
Although Amonsot landed the cleaner blows it was Chule who won the crowd.
Things went ugly in the fight after the referee failed to control the excessive clinching by both boxers midway the match.
Apart from the clinch, Amonsot punched Chule after the bell in at least two occasions.
By Round Six, Chule was already losing steam especially after he absorbed a right uppercut that threw him to the ropes.
The Kenyan, however, was able to survive in the final bell.
With the win, Amonsot climbed to 20-3-1 while Chule fell to 11-7-2.
