Ten people, including three foreign trekkers and three children, were killed in a flash flood and landslide unleashed by Typhoon “Kiko” (Morakot) in the northern Philippines on Friday, officials said.
In its report dated 6 p.m., the NDCC said the dead included five in Tarlac, three in Baguio City, and two in Botolan town in Zambales province.

Four areas have been placed under Storm Signal No. 1 as typhoon “Kiko” (Morakot) intensified further while heading for Taiwan Friday morning.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that as of 4 a.m., Kiko was located 340 km north northeast of Basco, Batanes.

MANILA, Philippines – The 10 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan had defied the government ban on deployment to war-torn countries, the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (OWWA) said yesterday.
OWWA chief Carmelita Dimzon said the 10 OFWs were deployed to work in the Middle East in 2004 but apparently slipped into Afghanistan as illegal workers.

The death toll from tropical cyclone “Emong" rose to 60 while damage to property breached the P1-billion mark Tuesday night, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said.
In its report dated 6 p.m. Tuesday, NDCC said 32 of the fatalities were from Pangasinan, 17 from Ifugao, three each from La Union and Nueva Vizcaya, and two from Cagayan.

The number of casualties caused by Typhoon “Emong” is now at 43 with 24 deaths in Region I, 16 deaths in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), one in Region II and two in Region III.
The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC), in its latest situation report on Sunday evening, stated that 42 people are injured and 7 are still unaccounted for.
