ces_drilon ABS-CBN senior correspondent Ces Drilon had faced one the toughest challenges in her life and career when she and her two cameramen were kidnapped by bandit group Abu Sayyaf last year.

While they were in the hands of their abductors, Drilon recalled that the three of them had survived that ordeal because, among other things, they were able to retain their sense of humor amid their gloomy situation.

“Yong nand’on kami, minsan nagbibiruan na lang kami para hindi masyadong low. Lalo na kapag ang isa nade-depress na masyado. Inaalala namin ‘yong mga dati naming coverage para magtatawanan na lang kami,” Drilon told “Ruffa and Ai.”

She pointed out that Filipinos are able to survive any hardship in life because they are known to have “high adversity quotient.”

She added that in her career as a broadcast journalist she also faced many ordeals that tested her patience and resolve.

“Kailangan kapalan mo talaga ‘yong mukha mo. Kasi kung kailangan mo ng istorya kahit pagsaraduhan ka pa ng pinto, pag-antayin ka ng ilang oras, siguro kahit hanggang hatinggabi, mag-aantay ka. Sisigawan ka minsan [kaya] kailangan makapal talaga ang face mo,” she said.

Drilon is best remembered for her gutsy reportage of important national and local events that took her right in the middle of the story, such as the execution of police officer Joe Pring by the Alex Boncayao Brigade and the Manila Peninsula siege in 2007.

Drilon was able to prove that trying incidents like her experience can make a person stronger, wiser, and more appreciative of life.

Having surmounted so many trials, Drilon now puts the spotlight on Filipinos’ courage and fighting spirit on her latest show.

“I Survived” is a 45-minute docu-drama featuring different stories of survival. It  premieres tonight after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.

“The show’s objective is to highlight the Filipinos’ courage, strength and persistence to counter odds, and face danger. We want to show our viewers how the human spirit can power you through the most difficult situations,” said Drilon, who makes a return as solo anchor with “I Survived.”

Drilon will go face-to-face with people who lived through life-threatening circumstances such as disasters, crime, accidents, adventures, and risky journeys, just like she did in June 2008.

Join Drilon for the first episode of “I Survived” after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.
