Malacañang has said that the president does not intend to stay beyond 2010, but fears of a possible term extension have resurfaced, no thanks to the aborted Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD) between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the government.
In today's state luncheon with Swiss President Pascal Couchepan, that suspicion only grew stronger when the president admitted that she wants to push for federalism.

The Supreme Court could "kill" the peace process with the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) if it makes the temporary restraining order (TRO) on the Moro homeland agreement permanent, a legal adviser to the government peace panel said.
In an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) Tuesday, Camilo Montesa, an adviser to the Philippine government's peace panel with the MILF, said that if the SC makes its TRO permanent, then the "SC effectively kills the peace process."
In response to petitions from local officials of North Cotabato and Zamboanga, the SC issued a TRO Monday on the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD) that would have led to the resumption of talks for a final and comprehensive peace agreement with the MILF. |

According to a copy of a territorial agreement, given to Reuters on Sunday, a future government of a new autonomous Muslim region, known as the Bangsamoro homeland, would have full responsibility for land use, the right to explore and exploit all potential sources of energy, both onshore and offshore, and the right to develop mineral resources. "It is essential to lay the foundation of the Bangsamoro homeland in order to address the Bangsamoro people's humanitarian and economic needs as well as their political aspirations," the document reads. |

Despite his veiled comments and blunt criticisms on the current administration, Malacañang still considers former president Fidel Ramos as a "friend" and "ally." It said his statements in the past few days only reflect his concern for the welfare of the Filipino nation.
