VIRGINIA BEACH BEACON Grab a paintbrush or warm up your singing voice for the eighth annual Kids Arts Palooza. The Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission and the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts will present the free event for preschool to middle-school-aged children Saturday. Festivities kick off at 1 p.m. with a performance in the Grand Lobby by Seven5Seven, a tween-aged singing group that has recorded three of its own songs and has been featured in more than 40 shows. The group will perform three sets throughout the day. |

LONG before the phenomenon of Filipino Diaspora reached its height in the early 1970s, the first wave of Filipino migrants came to Guam after World War II, recruited by U.S. military contractors to assist in rebuilding the war-torn island.
The first Filipino migrant workers from the eastern province of Iloilo arrived in 1946 and built a community in Camp Roxas in Agat, laying the foundation for future generations of Filipino-Americans who have become an integral part of the Guam community.
The stories of the first group of Filipino migrants were marked by struggle, perseverance, hard work, adaptation and ultimately success. |
