The patient in the "rectum surgery scandal" in Cebu province has received death threats, days after threatening to charge those responsible for spreading the video.

Radio dzBB's Cebu affiliate reported Thursday morning that the patient still plans to file charges against those who spread the video of the operation via YouTube and cell phone videos.

No other details about the death threat were immediately available, however.

The patient was operated on at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center to remove an object from his rectum. However, videos featuring the operation amid noisy laughter were posted on the Internet video-sharing site.

VSMMC spokesman Dr. Emmanuel Gines said they expect to come out with the results of their investigation by Friday.

"Hindi para pagtawanan ang pasyente, yan ang sabi nila (The doctors said the cheering was to cheer the success of the operation, not to ridicule the patient)," Gines said in an interview on dzBB radio.

But this early, he said the hospital will clamp down on cell phones inside the hospital premises.

"Hihigpitan natin ang pagdala ng cell phone, with or without camera (We will be stricter dealing with cell phones, with or without cameras)," he said.

The operation took place January but the patient learned about the incident only this month.

Gines said that when they learned after the taking of the video after the January operation, they immediately conducted an investigation.

The Ombudsman in Visayas is also conducting its own inquiry into the matter.

Earlier, the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) said if doctors are found violating medical ethics, they could be expelled from the association.

The unauthorized 2:54-minute video of a noisy operating room shows VSMMC doctors and nurses laughing, giggling and cheering.

Sun.Star Cebu cited an informant who said the video was uploaded to YouTube by a nursing student.
