Lozada fails to join NAIA ocular inspection; 'miscommunication' blamed
Thursday, 15 May 2008
Imagesupposed "miscommunication" forced the rescheduling of an ocular inspection of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport by a government panel looking into the alleged abduction attempt on ZTE witness Rodolfo Noel Lozada Jr.

Radio dzBB's Lito Laparan reported Wednesday evening that Lozada did not show up at the NAIA due to "miscommunication" between his camp and the Department of Justice.
The development forced the DOJ panel under prosecutor Emilie Fe delos Santos to postpone the ocular inspection to May 22 at 3 p.m.

Lawyers Joven Lorenzo representing Manila International Airport Authority deputy for security Angel Atutubo, and Eric Santos representing Rodolfo Valeroso, did not oppose the postponement.

Santos, however, sought a reenactment of the supposed abduction so they can clarify some matters.

Lozada had claimed Atutubo and Valeroso, along with other men, fetched him at the NAIA upon his arrival from Hong Kong last Feb. 5.

The engineer, who surfaced and expressed willingness to testify last Feb. 7, said he was taken for a ride by some policemen and feared that he would be killed.

He has filed charges of kidnapping against several government officials for the incident.

Before the radio report was aired, Lozada was spotted by reporters at the Department of Justice compound Wednesday afternoon.

He was supposed to accompany the panel of prosecutors investigating the kidnapping case during its ocular inspection of the NAIA terminal.

Lozada lawyer Jose Manuel Diokno said they were surprised and disappointed when they learned that the panel would leave without them, noting that Lozada's testimony of the sequence of events that lead to his abduction was crucial.

Diokno said that although they were given notice of the ocular inspection scheduled Tuesday, they were not properly informed of the preparations, nor were they given special safety passes to the Naia.

"We really want to participate. We don't understand kung paano makaka-conduct ng ocular inspection kung wala naman si Jun (Lozada). Sya sana ang magsasabi kung saan-saan dumaan, kung ano nangyari," he said.

The lawyer also pointed out that since Atutubo, assistant general manager of the Manila International Airport Authority, is one of the respondents in the kidnapping case, it would be inappropriate for his client to seek clearance from him. - GMANews.TV
