This will be the 34th MMFF event held in Metro Manila before the year ends. After a comprehensive deliberation by the selection committee, MMFF chairperson Julie Borje announced the eight official entries for the 2008 MMFF which include:
"Baler" will be produced by Viva Films under the direction of Mark Meily. The script will be written by Roy Iglesias. It is a love story movie where its setting focuses on historical facts about the war happened in Baler, Quezon during the Spanish period. Two Kapamilya stars will topbill the movie, namely, Anne Curtis and Jericho Rosales. "Dayo," meanwhile, is the first and only digital animation film included in the 2008 MMFF. It will be produced by Cutting Edge Productions to be directed by Robert Quilao with Artemio Abad Jr. and Eric Cabahug. The sequel of Desperadas by Regal Entertainment also joins the list. "Desperadas 2" will again be directed by highly-acclaimed director Joel Lamangan. This is the continuation of the life of four gorgeous sisters played by Ruffa Gutierrez, Rufa Mae Quinto, Iza Calzado, and Marian Rivera having one mother of different fathers. Joining the cast for this second blow is Eugene Domingo who will be introduced as the fifth sister of the four ladies. Tito, Vic, and Joey reunited on the big screen in "Escaleras and Ungasis: 20 Years After" under OctoArts film. Vic Sotto will give way to this movie as he will not produce another flick of "Okay Ka Fairy Ko" this year. "Escalera and the Ungasis" is based on "Iskul Bukol," a hit television sitcom that launched Tito, Vic, and Joey in the 1970s to 1980s. Last year's Best Actor Jinggoy Estrada will produce the film "Magkaibigan" together with Lorna Tolentino. This film envisions the friendship of late junior action star Rudy Fernandez and Jinggoy. It will be directed by Jose Javier Reyes under Maverick Film production. "One Night Only" under Canary Films, is a movie about the misadventures of several pairs of lovers in a motel one evening. "Shake Rattle and Roll," on the other hand, will not end their three-part horror story as Regal Entertainment produces the 10th edition of the hair-raising movie. Two talented directors - Topel Lee and Mike Tuviera - will direct this year's horror trilogy, which started way back in 1984. Last but definitely not the least is "Ang Tanging Ina Ninyong Lahat" under Star Cinema starring Comedy Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas. After five years, Ai-Ai's greatest hit movie got a sequel still under the direction of Wenn Deramas. Some of Ai-Ai's original children are included in the movie like one played by Marvin Agustin. Heart Evangelista meanwhile will be replaced by Paula Peralejo as her comeback movie, same as Serena Dalrymple who played the eighth child of Ai-Ai in first movie. Eugene is also part of this flick as she is the only star privileged to be part of two movies in this year's festival.
