Internationally acclaimed Filipino director Brillante Mendoza will be in Durban, South Africa for the Durban International Film Festival on July 24 to 29, 2008 to field his “Foster Child” in competition and “Tirador” in the official selection.

‘Serbis’ will be in Toronto, Vancouver, Pusan and London filmfests. It will also compete in Vladivostok, Russia,” said Mendoza.

The director said he expects another warm response to his films like what happened during the Paris Cinema International held recently in Paris. Mendoza, whose film “Serbis” was screened at the main derby of the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, a very prestigious celebration in France, thought he would be eclipsed by the glitz and glitter of his compatriots in a foreign land.

Maraming Europeans na nanood ng mga pelikula ko,”said Brillante, also known as Dante Mendoza in show business.

Five of his past and present films were exhibited in a special presentation namely “Masahista,” “Kaleldo,” “Foster Child,” “Tirador” and Serbis.”

“I was surprised, there were even members of the audience who said they liked ‘Masahista’ more than ‘Serbis.’ The comparison and contrast, you know. And I guess they’re personal choices and biases,” said Mendoza.

Mendoza returned to the Philippines from Europe on June 15 to talk on digital film-making in the context of independent cinema as part of the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival 2008 Film Congress.

He left the country four days after to attend another retro prepared for him by the Rome Asian Filmfest.
