DFA: Kin of Pinay killed in US shooting informed of tragedy
Cebu-based relatives of a Filipino woman killed in a shooting incident in the United States have been informed of the tragedy, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Monday.
DFA spokesman Eduardo Malaya said the relatives of Dolores Carbonilas Yigal are now likely communicating with her US-based husband.
"Na-inform na ang pamilya at asawa doon sa Binghampton. I’m sure yung pamilya dito sa Talisay (in Cebu) at naiwang asawa, si Omri, nag-uusap [We have informed her family in Cebu and her husband in Binghampton, New York. I am sure her family in Cebu and her husband in New York are now communicating]," Malaya said in an interview on dzXL radio.
He also cited reports that authorities in New York have tightened security measures after the incident.
Malaya said Dolores, who was among 14 people killed in a shooting spree in New York last weekend, was from the city of Talisay in Cebu province.
On the other hand, he said the DFA in Manila and the Philippine Consulate General in New York are now extending assistance to Dolores’ family in Cebu and to her husband in New York.
"Ang Consulate under Cecilia Rebong nagpadala ng isang consulate official at ang taong ito nasa Binghampton para tumulong sa pamilyang Yigal [The Philippine Consulate under Cecilia Rebong sent a consulate official to Binghampton to convey to the Yigal family the Philippine government's sympathy and condolences]," he said.
He said the consulate representatives are to convey the Philippine government’s sympathy and condolences.
Dolores had been residing in the US for two years and married to American Omri Yigal for three years.
