MANILA – After taking a leave from his top-rating noontime show “Wowowee”, popular TV host Willie Revillame surprised fans by singing in a concert at the Agro Football Field in Davao City.
The concert, which was sponsored by Sen. Manny Villar, drew thousands of fans who braved the heat and rain just to watch Revillame.
The Wowowili special was Revillame’s first public appearance since he went on-leave from the high-rating noontime show Wowowee two weeks ago.
The crowd danced with Revillame notwithstanding the rain. At 8 p.m., organizers decided to cut the show short after the sound system broke down due to the continuous pouring of the rain. The cancellation drove some of the fans to climb the stage just to get near Revillame and Villar.
“Nagpapasalamat kami sa mainit na pagtanggap ng Davaoenos sa amin. Humihingi rin kami ng paumanhin sa pagkansela ng show ni Willie dahil nakakaawa naman po ang mga nanonood na basang-basa na ng ulan,” Villar said.
The Philippine National Police in Davao reported that no injury or casualty resulted from the crowd’s unruly behavior.
Revillame’s concert coincided with the Kadayawan Leg of the Villards Cup held at the NCC Mall, where Efren “Bata” Reyes emerged as the champion. It was Reyes’ first championship after playing in 10 Villards Cups held in key cities around the country.
With the 11-5 score against Ramil Gallego, Reyes who was clearly the crowd’s favorite, bagged the P300,000 top prize.
Aside from Reyes and Gallego, world class billiards players Roberto Gomez, Rodolfo Luat, Ronnie Alcano, Dennis Orcollo, Warren Kiamco, Django Bustamante, Lee Van Corteza and Gandy Valle also played in the Villards Cup Kadayawan Leg.
