MANILA – Tacloban City councilor and actress Christina "Kring-Kring" Gonzales-Romualdez confirmed that one of the country’s seasoned leading men, Richard Gomez, will run for congressman in Ormoc, Leyte in next year’s polls.

In an interview, Romualdez said that Gomez already announced his plan to run but she did not know which district the actor is eyeing.

"Well he already announced that he will be running as congressman. We are so happy for him," Romualdez said.

The actress said that she and husband Tacloban City mayor Alfred Romualdez are thrilled over Gomez’s decision to help the people of Leyte.

"I know that he has the heart for politics and he has [the] heart to serve the peope. And I know he will make it," Romualdez said.

Gomez and Romualdez are both from Leyte province. The hunk actor’s wife, Lucy Torres-Gomez, hails from Ormoc.

In a recent interview, Gomez had said he was still undecided about whether he will run again for the national polls in 2010.

"Let’s see, we don’t know what will happen. If people really  want our help, let’s see," Gomez said in a statement.

Gomez said it is still to early to decide whether he will plunge into politics, since he is busy with other projects.
Gomez, a former nominee of party-list MAD (Mamamayang Ayaw sa Droga), ran for the 2007 senatorial election but lost.
