RP gives $10,000 aid to Gaza

The Philippines has contributed $10,000 to the United Nations’ Flash Humanitarian Appeal for Gaza.

In a report, Ambassador to the UN Erlinda Basilio said the Philippine Mission conveyed on Friday the government’s contribution as a manifestation of support for the plight of the Palestinian people. The Flash Appeal, issued in February by UN Undersecretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator Sir John Holmes, is in support of UN efforts to provide humanitarian relief to the people of Gaza.

The conflict in Gaza has led to the deaths of over 1,300 Palestinians, 5,300 injured and displacement of tens of thousands.

A number of Filipinos married to Palestinians were also affected by the conflict. Relief and reconstruction efforts are being led and coordinated by the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (OCHA), UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNWRA) and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA).

The total amount requested for the Gaza Appeal is $613 million, to fund 106 NGO and 82 UN projects.
