Run for mayor first, Kris tells Revillame
Television personality Kris Aquino, the youngest sister of Liberal Party standard-bearer Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, Tuesday called on TV host Willie Revillame to run for mayor first after the latter hinted last Monday that he might run for a Senate seat in the May 2010 elections.
Though he still refused to confirm his political plan, Revillame mentioned about the Senate in an interview, in “Showbiz News Ngayon”” (SNN) aired over ABS-CBN last Monday.
“Magiging masaya ang Senado, lalo na’t makakasama ko sila Senator Enrile,’’ said Revillame, who also said in a jest that he would teach the senators how to play “Hep-Hep, Hooray!’’ one of the popular portions of his game show, if he sets foot in the Upper House.
But Revillame toned down the discussion on his political plan, saying he would make the announcement in proper time and place.
“May panahon para sa lahat at hindi pa ngayon para maghayag ng ibang plano ko. Kung nararapat na maging mas malawak ang serbisyo ko para sa mga tao, then titignan natin kung ano ang dapat gawin,’’ Revillame said.
Aquino, who just returned from a 10-day vacationin Hawaii, suggested that Revillame should run (for mayor) in Quezon City, where she is a registered voter.
“Mas maganda kung mag-uumpisa muna s’ya bilang mayor at iboboto ko s’ya,’’ Aquino told Boy Abunda, another host of SNN.
Revillame has just returned to his TV show following suspension over an outburst on the live video insertion on the transfer of President Aquino’s body from Greenhills to Intramuros, Manila last month.
Last Monday, he returned to a rousing welcome from his friends, show’s sponsors, and fans. Twice during the three-hour show, Revillame put the televiewers in suspense by saying that he will make a special announcement.
Revillame’s announcement alluded to his political plan, but he refused to give details.
He also thanked his friends and supporters who texted and visited him when he was suspended.
One of his friends is presidentiable Senator Manny Villar, who was represented by his son Mark Villar in the show last Monday afternoon.
“Mahal na mahal ko si Senator Villar dahil nung nawala ako sa TV pansamantla, walang kaabug-abog nagpunta s’ya sa bahay namin at kinumusta ako,’’ Revillame said. Unconfirmed reports said that Villar stayed with Revillame for several hours in the house and ate native delicacies.
But a poll conducted by SNN through text messaging, which asked viewers if Revillame should enter politics, was not favorable. The survey said that 90.50 percent of the texters said Revillame is better off as a TV host while 9.5 percent of the voters said Revillame would make a good politician.
Revillame stressed again that he would try his best to be a good politician if he enters politics. “Tutulong ako sa mga nangangailangan at hindi ako magnanakaw.’’
