Willie’s daughter dissuades him from joining politics
MANILA – Actress Meryll Soriano is trying to convince her father, “Wowowee” host Willie Revillame, not to run in next year’s elections.
There is no need for her father to join the world of politics if he wants to help other people, Soriano said.
Revillame’s oldest daughter pointed out that he is already helping the public by entertaining them through his popular noontime show “Wowowee.” She added that the joy he brings to the thousands of “Wowowee” viewers “is priceless.”
She also admitted that politics is not Revillame’s turf.
She told abs-cbnNEWS.com: "We are all part of the country. But to be part of that (politics), you really have to be well educated. Kung magsasabi siya sa akin na mag-aaral siya, sige go. Pero kung papasok ka lang [just because you want] to help, well… (he) is already a philanthropist."
“I really don’t want him to run at all,” she added. "Being in the government is very delekado for us, for our family and for him and mawawala ang novelty ng ginagawa nya. Ayoko po talaga."
Revillame has yet to announce his plans for 2010 elections. Many groups have been reportedly convincing him to run.
Jet plane
Meanwhile, Soriano, who is a mother to a two-year-old child named Elijah, said she felt proud after hearing the news that Revillame bought a jet plane.
"Hard-earned money iyan. Hindi naman siya iyong nangurakot or something. I’m so proud of him. Kung anuman ang mayroon siya, deserve niya yon," she said.
She said she is looking forward to spending time with her dad onboard his jet.
Soriano also said she is happy that her father, who is still on leave from “Wowowee,” now has a time to rest and relax.
"Kahit paano naalagaan niya ang sarili niya this time and that’s one good result of what happened. Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Gwapo ka ngayon, in fairness,’" she said, referring to Revillame’s controversial order to remove the live streaming of former president Corazon Aquino’s funeral procession from his show.
Despite the controversy, she said she is glad that many people still support him.
Soriano even volunteered to fill in for her father until he returns to “Wowowee” on September 21.
Soriano lent her voice to the female lead star of Taiwan hit series "Miss No Good," which airs weekdays at 4:45 p.m. on ABS-CBN.
